An Ohio cannabis dispensary closed suddenly in Jackson, leaving patients and consumers asking why the doors were shut and whether products purchased there may be connected to two serious health incidents.
Herbal Wellness Center temporarily closed at the request of the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control while state regulators investigate. Operator Vext Science announced the closure on September 4, 2026.

Why did the Ohio dispensary close?
According to Vext Science, the Division of Cannabis Control is investigating two serious adverse health events involving people the agency believes may have purchased products from the Jackson dispensary.
The closure does not establish that a cannabis product caused either medical incident. Regulators have not publicly identified a suspected product, brand, processor, package, batch number, purchase date or contaminant.
Vext says it has not received enough information about the individuals, products or circumstances to independently determine whether either event is connected to a product sold at the dispensary.
Products quarantined and sent for testing
Vext says it voluntarily quarantined certain product lines across its Ohio retail and manufacturing operations and provided samples for independent testing while cooperating with the investigation.
The company says the affected inventory had previously passed Ohio's required testing through state-licensed laboratories. That is the company's position, not a final conclusion from the Division of Cannabis Control.
Vext's five other Ohio dispensaries and its cultivation facility continue to operate and, according to the company, are not currently part of the DCC inquiry.
A death has been reported, but the cause is not established
The Telegram News reports that one of the two incidents involved a death and says the information was confirmed through local authorities, including the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
That report is important, but it does not establish that cannabis, a vape cartridge or any product sold at Herbal Wellness Center caused or contributed to the death. No public toxicology report, coroner's finding, medical examiner's determination or final laboratory result has established such a connection.
Because this investigation is active, the reported circumstances and any possible connection to a dispensary purchase could change as additional evidence becomes available.
Were cannabis vapes involved?
Claims circulating on social media say vape products were involved and that another person experienced a life-threatening emergency and was revived.
As of this update, Ohio Cannabis Live has not located an official public statement identifying a specific vape cartridge as the cause of either incident. Reports involving a third person, multiple deaths or someone clinically dying and being revived have not been fully documented in an official public statement.
