Ohio Medical Cannabis Patients Can Now Buy More at Once. Here’s What Changed

Ohio has officially updated its medical cannabis rules, and the changes are now in effect.

As of March 24, 2026, the state shifted how purchase limits work. This impacts how much patients can buy, how often they need to visit dispensaries, and how the supply is tracked.

Here’s what you need to know now that this is live.

What Changed

Ohio moved away from the old days supply system and replaced it with a daily transaction limit.

Patients and dispensaries no longer have to calculate products differently. Everything is now based on a simple daily cap.

New Daily Limits

Patients and caregivers can now purchase

2.5 ounces of plant material per day

15,000 mg of THC in other products per day

These limits now match adult-use cannabis rules in Ohio.

Patients Can Buy More in One Trip

Patients can now purchase up to four days' worth of cannabis at once.

That means

Up to 10 ounces of flower

Up to 60,000 mg of THC

in a single visit.

Caregivers Are Still Limited

Caregivers can only purchase up to the daily limit

2.5 ounces of flower

15,000 mg of THC

They cannot stack multiple days as patients can.

90 Day Limit Still Applies

Even with larger purchases, patients cannot exceed the total possession limit.

The 90-day supply equals 90 times the daily limit.

If you are buying multiple days at once, you need to track what you have so you do not go over.

What the State Data Shows

According to the official state guidance, the maximum 90-day possession limit equals

14.06 pounds of plant material

1,350 grams of THC in other products

Ohio Medical Cannabis Patients are allowed to bulk purchase up to four days at a time, but caregivers are not.

System Changes

The state also removed the old tracking system

No more product-based calculations

No more registry day supply calculator

Everything is now based on daily limits

This makes the system easier to follow but puts more responsibility on the patient.

Doctor Recommendations Still Apply

Physicians can still limit what a patient can purchase.

Patients and dispensaries must follow those recommendations.
